SALVAGE OPERATIONS

Salvage is every boater’s worst nightmare.  There is a clear distinction between towing and salvage, and every boater should know the difference.  We understand that at a time like that you do not want vultures hanging around.  After 25 years of experience with salvage operations, we are well qualified to help make your situation less painful.  Our prices are less than any of our competitors, and cost is a very big factor.  You and your insurance company will be relieved to know that we do not follow the industry standard of expecting 10% of the insured value of the boat.  Our philosophy is that the consumer should pay for what he/she is getting.  We are introducing a fee schedule for salvage projects that is based on the amount of work that is required to save your boat.  BE AWARE: just because you have Marine Towing insurance with one of the national companies you do not need to use them for your salvage.  You have the freedom to choose anyone.  American Boating Services will cost less and get the job done.

American Boating Services has worked with the following companies performing diving and salvage operations:

Essex Island Marina Associated Dock Builders
Essex Boat Works Brewers (Pilots Point)
BoatU.S. Affordable Boat Tow

TOWING vs. SALVAGE

Towing is a service in which only one responding vessel is needed to assist a disabled boat.   Soft ungrounding occurs when just one towing vessel is able to refloat a gently grounded boat without causing damage to either vessel involved.  This practice would usually be considered towing.

When the level of danger escalates for the boat and its passengers, the responder, or the environment, the procedure is known as Salvage.  This could include a vessel taking on water, holed, or grounded on rocks (or other structures).  If special equipment is needed, including but not limited to additional responding vessel(s), air bags, divers, or high capacity pumps, then the job is considered salvage.
